villages, thatched inns and tea rooms in the area
famous for Devonshire cream teas. At Bideford
(2 miles), there are good shops, pubs, restaurants,
an ancient pannier market, an outlet shopping centre
and regular sailing trips to Lundy Island. The
famous Tarka Trail (cycle and footpath) along the
spectacular estuary can be joined near the
farmhouse, and an abundance of dramatic
coastal walks can be found along the English
Heritage Coastline nearby. The delightful
seaside fishing village of Instow (3 miles) offers
many pubs and fine restaurants, and also has a sandy
beach overlooking the bay. 3 miles away is Westward
Ho! with an extensive sandy beach, popular with keen
surfers, and an 18-hole links golf course. The
fascinating little fishing village of Appledore with
its narrow streets has art galleries run by local
artists and offers sea fishing trips. Many more
glorious golden beaches can be found within 20 miles
at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. The Dartington
Crystal factory, where you can watch and take part
in making the famous glassware is only 5 miles away,
as are the Rosemoor RHS Gardens.

A fantastic location on
the spectacular North Devon Coast in the
picturesque seaside and harbour town of
Ilfracombe, these semi-detached, chalet
style holiday bungalows are within the
pretty grounds of the owner’s hotel, with
use of the hotel restaurant and bar, subject
to availability. The ideal holiday location
from which to enjoy this lovely area. In
summer the Lundy Island ferry runs from the
harbour, and it is the ideal spot for sea
fishing enthusiasts.
If not exploring the
`The Lanes’ or `Tunnels’ beach, then you
could visit the 18th century Bicclescombe
Water Mill or the Ilfracombe Museum. There
are many scenic coastal walks, including the
South West Coastal Path and the famous Tors
Walk, and Ilfracombe has an excellent
selection of pubs, restaurants and quayside
shops along with a swimming pool and famous
Landmark Theatre.
This is a great base
for touring, with superb surfing at Croyd
and Woolacombe and the unspoilt wild open
moors of Exmoor National Park close by. The
Victorian cliff railway at Lynton and
Lynmouth are within easy reach and the area
has many family attractions including Exmoor
Zoological Park and Combe Martin Wildlife &
Dinosaur Park.
