This beautifully
renovated, stone holiday cottage is perfect
for a quiet relaxing break or as a base to
enjoy wonderful scenery and exhilarating
outdoor pursuits. Regarded by many as the
most attractive village in the West
Highlands, Plockton is quiet through most of
the year but is a popular destination for
visitors in the summer months, particularly
during its long established, small boat
sailing regatta fortnight in August. The
property is situated in a charming row of
150-year-old fisherman’s cottages in a quiet
end of the village and enjoys a lovely
enclosed front garden right on the water’s
edge with stunning views over Loch Carron to
the mountains beyond. Locally landed seafood
and Plockton brewed ale can be enjoyed all
year round in several nearby inns and
restaurants. There are many fine
low level and coastal walks in and around
the village where otters and birdlife can be
spotted. For the more active,
sailing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing
and hill walking are particularly popular
with Torridon and Kintail only a short
journey away. Plockton is an area with
interests for everyone. Visitors can enjoy
the romantic Eilean Donan Castle, the
Lochalsh Woodland Garden at Balmacara
maintained by the National Trust, or the
remote coastal settlement of Applecross
reached by a memorable journey over the
highest road in Scotland. At nearby Kyle of
Lochalsh is the bridge over to the beautiful
Isle of Skye which boasts spectacular
mountain, cliff and seascapes and some
unique geological formations. From there,
take a boat trip to spot seals, dolphins or
whales or to visit the elusive and magical
Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillin
mountains. Visit the Talisker Distillery or
one of the many artist studios or enjoy a
meal at the world famous Three Chimneys
restaurant. Swim and picnic at the
enchanting Fairy Pools. This is just a few
of the many things to see and do while based
in Plockton.

With superb views
across the Inner Sound to the Inner
Hebridean Islands of Raasay, Rona and Skye,
this 19th-century holiday cottage has been
architecturally renovated to a high
standard, and has its own landscaped garden
with decking leading down to the seashore.
Set amidst some of Scotland’s most dramatic
and rugged scenery, Applecross nestles
between mountains and sea and is approached
over Britain’s highest road pass. Wester
Ross has long been considered one of the
more remote corners of the British mainland
– and is still known as a haven of enormous
beauty and tranquillity; Applecross was
declared a sanctuary in 673 AD by the Irish
monk Maelrubha. The region is home to the
golden eagle and pine marten – and the last
remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine
forest. To the north is the Beinn Eighe
National Nature Reserve (Torridon mountains)
where the NTS Countryside Centre provides
opportunity to explore the flora, fauna and
history of this sheltered fertile area
amidst some of the oldest geological
formations in Britain. Also north of the
Applecross Peninsula are the world-famous
sub-tropical Inverewe Gardens, and to the
south the picturesque NTS village of
Plockton and the Isle of Skye.
The area provides excellent coastal walks
and abundant wildlife – seals are frequently
seen in the indented coastline, and stags
roam the heather-clad hillsides of the
Applecross Peninsula. More
occasionally porpoises and even the
mysterious profile of a submarine lurks in
the Inner Sound. Rockpools left behind by
the tide provide a great variety of
creatures for children to discover.
Beautiful sandy bay within 5 miles
(see bottom photograph).
Mountaineering, kayaking and landrover trips
can be arranged locally. The award winning
Applecross Inn, renowned for its locally
caught seafood and convivial hospitality, is
just 10-minutes walk away.
