Enjoys sea views
A short walk from the
NT beauty spot of Mullion Cove and close to
adjacent sandy coves, this lovely stone
Cornish holiday cottage stands peacefully in
a sunny sheltered garden. The garden
features a revolving cedar wood summerhouse
(an ideal hide for bird-watchers), which is
set between a lily pond and stream and there
is an octagonal gazebo cum brick barbecue
area. Wrapped up for the night in the
summerhouse, sensible older children will be
enthralled to watch badgers and foxes
spending long hours digging for worms in the
grass. Located on the Lizard Peninsula,
Mullion is Cornwall’s biggest village and is
situated just a mile from the coast, where
Mullion Cove lies with its unusual rock
sculptures and small beach.
Marking the spot where
the first transatlantic radio transmission
was made in 1901, the Marconi Monument can
be seen at the cliff’s edge. Nearby Kynance
Cove (the peninsula’s best known beach) is
characterised by impressive cliffs, offshore
islands and displays stacks and arches of
serpentine rock. With surfers, the beaches
at Polurrian and Poldhu prove popular,
whilst sandy beaches can be found at Church
and Dollar coves.
Five miles north of
the cottage is the stannary town of Helston,
where tin ore was once extracted and sent to
the port at Porthleven. Held each May, the
well-known Floral Dance is performed here –
men in top hats and women in summer dresses
taking to the streets to re-enact a somewhat
strange dance, which lasts for the greater
part of the day.
Younger family members
will enjoy the theme park also found there,
and the network of quiet country lanes
connecting the inland villages with those on
the coast provide a good way to explore the
area, with cycle hire available at Helston.
Just over half an hour’s drive away are
Truro, Penzance, Falmouth, Redruth and St
Ives. Golf, riding and pleasant coastal
walks all found locally. Shops 400 yards,
pub close by.
Spacious dining hall
with rug on parquet floor and inglenook
fireplace (ornamental only). Living room
with rug on parquet floor and picture window
overlooking garden. Study/TV room. Large
fitted kitchen with breakfast bar and
separate dining area. Cloakroom with toilet.
Open-tread stairs to first floor: Two twin
bedrooms. Double bedroom. Bunk bedroom.
Bathroom with electric over-bath shower and
toilet (also accessed from twin bedroom).

"Character cottages in
a valley setting....within easy reach of the
sea "
Nestling in a
peaceful valley, these carefully converted
barns and cottages lie just a short distance
from the picturesque fishing villages of
Polperro and Looe. Built of Cornish stone
and with grey slate roofs, some of the
holiday cottages date back to the 18th
century, and retain original features such
as high pitched ceilings, exposed rafters
and natural stone walls. All the cottages
have been furnished to a high standard. A
shared parking area provides ample parking
for each holiday cottage, which has its own
garden, and additionally, there is shared
access to 17 acres of the owner’s natural
grounds. A pleasing combination
of secluded sandy beaches and appealing
Cornish fishing villages are to be found
along the south coast, just a short drive
away, where the coast stretches out for some
ten miles or so between Polperro and
Polruan. Clinging to a hillside, Polruan is
just one example of a ‘picture-postcard’
village, whilst quaint Polperro – with its
past smuggling connections and pilchard
fishing – has its many admirers too. Closely
linked with Daphne du Maurier, the estuary
town of Fowey is home to the Literary
Centre, where an exhibition outlines the
author’s life and works.
The 15th-century
church of St Fimbarrus, which stands as the
focal point in the town, marks the
traditional end of the ancient Saints’ Way
footpath – a route that links the north and
south Cornish coasts. From the Esplanade,
access is gained to several scenic walks
around the coast as well as to the small
beach of Readymoney Cove, whilst fine views
of the estuary can be savoured from the
nearby ruins of St Catherine’s Castle.
Handily situated just 3 miles from the A38,
the cottages are situated in a location
ideal for touring both the north and south
coasts. Not far either is the magnificent
Eden Project (15 miles) with its giant
biomes reproducing the various climates of
the world. Many quaint country pubs and
restaurants are within a short drive. Shop
1½ miles.
