corner of the village. A lovely welcome
awaits you. Salkeld is in the Eden Valley
between the Lake District and the northern
Pennines and makes a good base to tour the
area. It is a pretty village, having won the

This traditional
farmhouse lies half a mile beyond the
outskirts of Alston on the borders of
Northumbria and Cumbria, central in the
North Pennines, an AONB. Alston is said to
be England’s highest market town. Fishing,
riding and golf nearby. Follow some of the
local rambles or the Pennine Way. The
glorious coast and countryside of
Northumbria is within travelling distance,
as are the Lake District, the Yorkshire
Dales and the Scottish Borders. Water sports
at Talkin and Keilder Water. Gateshead, only
an hour away, has a large shopping centre
with restaurants and ten screen cinema. Or
just stay home and relax in front of the
fire and eat together with family and
friends. Set in a garden, bordered by mature
trees with panoramic views over green fields
and wild fells. Before it lies the site of
an ancient Britain fort, and behind, the
Roman’s Maiden Way. The town has a quaint
cobbled street with public houses, butchers,
bakers and its own candlemaker. An ideal
holiday base. Assisted wheelchair users can
be accommodated on the ground floor.

TSet in the heart of
the beautiful and unspoilt Eden Valley, this
19th century farmhouse has been refurbished
to create an outstanding holiday home just a
mile from the pretty fellside village of
Dufton. It has an interesting mix of
original features including flagged floors
and a wealth of beams combined with modern,
contemporary fittings and furniture. It
enjoys wonderful, panoramic views of the
Eden Valley out towards the Lakeland Fells
and are surrounded by superb walking on the
Pennine Way. Dufton village and a vast area
to the north are in the north Pennines AONB.
There is a splendid walk through the wooded
valley of Dufton Ghyll, home to red
squirrels, foxes and a variety of birds as
well as giving the children an opportunity
to fish for tiddlers. In the village, you
can enjoy an excellent meal at the popular
inn on the village green. For the more
adventurous the Pennine Way passes through
the village and Dufton is also on the
National Cycle network. It is only half an
hours drive to the Lake District National
Park, where you can take the steamer or hire
a boat on Ullswater. The Howgills and
Yorkshire Dales are also within easy reach.

the Dales and the Lakes and this lovely
holiday home is ideal for families and
friends exploring one of the most beautiful
