From Bolderwood, three waymarked
paths offer walkers some of the New
Forest's most beautiful scenery,
with one walk taking in around 40
different species of trees.
For nature lovers, Deer Meadow
provides much useful information on
the various types of deer that can
be found, including red, roe, sika,
fallow and muntjac, and the timid
creatures can be observed from a
platform there.

River Avon in Hampshire at the edge of
Ringwood, a beautiful old market town on the
edge of the New Forest. The house overlooks
open water meadows to the rear yet is only a
2-minute walk to the centre of town with its
wide range of shops, wonderful pubs and fine
places to eat. The riverside garden has 100
feet of private river bank with fishing
rights and views over the river to the
nearby thatched pub, the Fish Inn. The house
itself dates back several hundred years in
parts but has been extended over the years.
All can enjoy the large hot tub and sauna
and the main garden has a lovely outdoor
heated swimming-pool and the Breeze house
for al fresco dining. The lively coastal
town of Bournemouth is 15 minutes'' drive
away, the ancient city of Salisbury 30
minutes'' drive and London 1-2 hours by car
or coach from Ringwood. It is an ideal spot
from which to explore the New Forest
National Park with its varied wildlife,

pretty hamlet of Brook, Little Popes stands
detached and dates back 600 years. Thatched
and Grade II listed, it is a charming,
`chocolate-box' cottage, oozing character
and displaying a wealth of beams. There are
two covered wells within the grounds to the
front, whilst the large enclosed rear garden
makes a wonderful spot where guests can
relax on the decked area. The cottage base
provides a real haven from which to enjoy
and explore the surrounding area. The New
Forest can be discovered on foot, or by car
or bicycle - exploring some of the appealing
villages, and perhaps stopping for a cream
tea in one of the many popular tearooms.
Hampshire was enjoyed by the English
novelist Jane Austen - with her house and
museum in Chawton, and her final resting
place in Winchester Cathedral. There are
many activities for the family to enjoy,
including Marwell Zoological Park, New
Forest Otter and Owl Wildlife Park or a day
out at Beaulieu Motor Museum to name a few
places of interest nearby. Further a field,
but well worth a trip, is Monkey World and
the Tank Museum near Wool. Southampton, with
its maritime history and West Quay shopping
centre, makes for a good day out browsing
around the shops; whilst beach lovers will
enjoy a day by the sea at the Blue Flag
beaches of Hayling Island, Bournemouth and
Sandbanks Poole. Two pubs and two golf
courses can be found within a short stroll. |
