Aptly named, Waterhead Studio is set right on the shore of, and with superb views across Lake Windermere. Apart from the small lake frontage, guests also benefit from a balcony, boat storage area and shared use of a jetty. On the southern outskirts of Ambleside, (see photo on right) just ¼ mile from Waterhead, where you can take cruises down the lake. The visitor centre at Brockhole, with its 30-acres of award-winning gardens and grounds, is a great place to start any trip to this beautiful area. Home to a series of trails, walks, events and activities, it also has an information centre where you can find out all about the local attractions and there are, indeed, many to see here. Close by are Hawkshead and beautiful Grasmere. Both villages are inextricably linked to the great romantic poet William Wordsworth. Historians and Wordsworth fans alike will find a visit to either Dove Cottage or Rydal Mount an interesting diversion. Wordsworth is not the only literary connection here however, both John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter also lived nearby, Ruskin at Brantwood on the shores of Coniston Water, and Beatrix Potter at Hill Top (NT) at Far Sawrey. In an idyllic secluded location with stunning, uninterrupted views over the fells to the Vale of Lorton, these two adjoining properties have been created from a beautiful detached house, built in 1822as a `painting house' and studio for Joseph Sutton, a noted local artist. They are set in 1¾acres of mature wooded gardens (with grassed areas, ideal for ball games) which lead down to the River Cocker where fishing is available by local licence. Woodlands and the river can be seen in the bottom photograph. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a haven to an abundance of wildlife. Just a short drive away is the bustling Georgian market town of Cockermouth (4miles), the birthplace of William Wordsworth whose poetry helped make the Lake District so well known.The property is situated in the hamlet of Rogerscale, just 8miles (via the Whinlatter Pass) from Keswick, the Northern 'capital' of the Lakes, making this an ideal base from which to explore both the northern Lakes and the west coast. The area offers stunning scenery, with Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere within 15minutes' drive. Easily reached are Derwent Water (with steamers) and Bassenthwaite (with sailing and canoeing), while the Whinlatter Forest Centre offers extensive walking and cycling trails. Riding and golf 5miles. Lorton 1mile. Coast 20miles. Pub serving food 1mile.

Note: Although completely self contained, these two properties can be interconnected via an internal door to provide accommodation for up to 12 people. Over the Xmas and New Year period LUU and LUV must be booked together.
