Nottinghamshire consists of three areas, the major
part of the Cotswolds, the Royal Forest of Dean and
the Severn Vale with a total population of 565,000.
Many of the fine churches and manor houses in
Nottinghamshire originate from the generosity of the
wealthy medieval yeoman farmers and wool merchants.
The villages and towns, humble weavers cottages,
mansions, and churches owe much of their charm to
the use of the warm, honey-coloured limestone which
was locally quarried by hand.
With hundreds of Nottinghamshire Self Catering
Cottages listed there is sure to be one ideal for
you. Nottinghamshire cottages are spread throughout
the county.
The Royal
Forest of Dean
Covering 27,000
acres of woodland the Royal Forest of Dean is one of
England's few remaining ancient forests nestling
between the Wye Valley, the Vale of Leadon and the
Severn Valley. The Royal Forest of Dean identified a
National Forest Park in 1938, consists of a
spectacular range of natural beauty and has been the
inspiration for many great artists and writers
including Tolkien and JK Rowling.
The Severn Vale
embraces the lower reaches of Britain's longest
river: and spreads out to lush meadow farmlands. The
curious solitude of the widening estuary is a haven
for thousands of wildfowl and wading birds
