Delgatie Castle, Turriff, Aberdeenshire |
|
Historic accommodation, set in tranquil location
- 3 separate Holiday Rentals.
Delgatie Castle sits peacefully amid fields and
forests, on a large country estate. It has a long
and chequered history, dating back from 1050 and was
once home to the late Captain Hay - a feudal baron.
Now open to the public, the castle provides a wealth
of interest for visitors, plus the opportunity to
sample delicious home baking in the cosy tea room.
The properties on offer here have been tastefully
renovated and refurbished to provide spacious,
modern accommodation; which still retains much
individual character. Ashwood and Elmwood are two of
the four cottages, which form The Coach House;
whilst the elegant Symbister Suite, located in the
north wing of the castle, has, as you would expect,
all the style and ambience of a real stately home -
master bedroom.
Turriff (3 miles) is home to a host of activities
and interests. River fishing, with brown
trout and salmon both available at cost.
You can play golf on any of the several 18-hole
courses in the area, or enjoy some time on a boating
lake or even a putting green. Alternatively, play
tennis, bowls, or go riding or shooting. Try the
indoor sports and swimming pool complex.
Nearby there are stately homes and castles to
explore, museums and heritage centres, picturesque
coastal villages, nature reserves and colourful
parks, as well as famous distilleries.

Ballater,
Aberdeenshire |
|
This
spacious, stone-built detached property
ensures a delightful, peaceful break amidst
the glorious river and mountain landscape of
Royal Deeside. Presented to a high standard,
it is very well furnished with many
attractive antique pieces and complimentary
fabrics, with under floor heating and most
attractive bedrooms and bathrooms creating a
cosy ambience all year round.
Ballater
(2miles) is probably best known for its
train station, which was Queen Victoria's
first port of call on her inaugural visit to
Balmoral in 1848. While the station is no
longer in use, it has been preserved, and
nowadays houses an elegant tearoom. In
addition, Ballater offers a variety of
interesting shops, inns and eating
establishments.
Deeside is
a haven for outdoors enthusiasts. Leisurely
walks can be enjoyed along the scenic banks
of the River Dee, while the really
adventurous can tackle some the region's
famous mountains; the Balmoral Ranger's
Visitor Centre on the shores of Loch Muik
provides the ideal starting point for many
of these walks.
There are
also good opportunities for canoeing and
mountain biking, and even skiing during the
winter months. Inexpensive golf courses are
easily accessible in Braemar, Ballater and
Banchory. Braemar is also famous for its
Highland Games, the annual Braemar
Gathering, which were first held in the 11th
century. Castles and gardens can be found at
Balmoral and Crathes as well as Craigievar.
For a day
trip, Aberdeen is within easy driving
distance. The city's striking architecture
has earned it the name `The Granite City',
and the buildings are transformed into
sparkling silver in the rain. Some of the
many attractions in the city include the Art
Gallery with its fine collection, the
wonderful Anthropological Museum and the
Winter gardens. Pool and leisure centre in
Aboyne, 15 minutes' drive. Trout
fishery 500 yards.

| Glenprosen, by Kirriemuir, Angus |
|
In one of
Scotland's most glorious glens, these characterful
cottages are separately set on a substantial estate
- 6,000acres of spectacular scenery fringed by
mountain peaks, with the River Prosen meandering
through.
The estate offers
cross-country skiing (winter), walking, mountain
biking, bird watching. Fishing enthusiasts
will enjoy the 5-mile stretch of River Prosen, as
well as a stocked trout pond.
The estate is on
the edge of the Cairngorm National Park, its
woodlands and waterways offering delightful walks
and a colourful experience whatever the season. The
region's turbulent past can be traced through its
wealth of imposing castles and ruins.
Only 10miles away

place of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie.

The
Kilchoan Estate enjoys an idyllic and
peaceful setting, facing south on the north

it commands magnificent views over the loch
and the islands of Shuna and Luing, to

provided or wander in the hills, discovering
quiet lochs and havens abundant with
wildlife. Loch trout fly fishing is

SEEJ Chapel Cottage
- sleeps 6 - 8
SEEK Chapel Cottage
- sleeps 2
SGGI Chapel Cottage
- sleeps 2
Lochgilphead, Argyll |
|
Set within
the charming private estate of Kirnan House,
in an AONB, Chapel Cottage (SEEJ) which is
one of a pair, single-storey Torrnaleich
Cottage (SEEK) and Heron Cottage (SGGI)
which are both one of row, offer the perfect
retreat for families, friends and couples to
relax and unwind from the pressures of
everyday life.
Situated
close to the owner's 18th-century home, and
surrounded by 630 acres of unspoilt
woodland, the properties have been
sympathetically renovated, creating
attractive accommodation to the highest
standard. Steeped in history, this
spectacular estate is a historical seat of
the branch of Campbell's of Argyll. In 1890,
the ruins of the original house and
buildings were extended and renovated to
form a shooting lodge. The property was
subsequently leased to a botanist who in
1920 laid out an extensive shrub garden
which became the second most famous garden
in the west of Scotland.
The
surrounding woodlands are a haven for
wildlife lovers, where sika, roe and red
deer can all be seen roaming freely.
Scottish wild cats, red squirrels, pine
martens, wood cocks, rabbits and snipe have
also made this land their own. There are
also frequent sightings of buzzards, heron,
eagles and osprey.
Beyond
the pastureland of Kirnan, and protected by
Scottish Natural Heritage, is home to the
extremely rare marsh fritillary butterfly.
These woods also contain the ruins
of an ancient medieval fort and stone
carvings, and border two private lochs, `Torrnaleich'
and `Lochan na Curaich' which can be fished
for trout.
Kirnan also owns 4 miles of the River Add
which is available for salmon and trout
fishing. Other local attractions
include excellent restaurants, museums,
castles, walks and cycle paths, and the
famous Crinan Canal. Pubs 5 miles.

Edinburgh"
Set on a magnificent Highland estate

childhood holiday homes, is a fine,
spacious, detached Scottish house for
discerning guests and families, elegantly

17th-century, cosy and very comfortable
property occupying a lovely riverside
location with views encompassing the high
hills and surrounding quiet countryside.
Boasting its own large enclosed garden it
makes a super retreat for couples or
families.

wonderful walking from the door and a wealth
of bird-watching, fishing (with rod
hire) and boating on trout lochs and on the
7-mile river frontage can be enjoyed, with
shooting and stalking available by prior
arrangement. Excellent golf courses
for the enthusiast at St Andrews, Carnoustie,
Gleneagles and Rosemount. The ski resort at
Glenshee is 35 minutes by car, as is
Pitlochry with its Festival Theatre,
restaurants and kilt and cashmere shops.
