remote areas.

Set close to Largs on the Firth of Clyde, these
charming apartments have been carefully converted
from the stable block of a delightful Victorian
manor house, which is located some 200 yards away
along a tree-lined drive. Offering every modern
comfort and convenience, enjoy the relaxing ambience
of the scenic setting. You can relax amid 15 acres
of landscaped grounds, or in the lawned areas, which
are surrounded by woodland. There are wonderful
views of the hills and islands of the Firth of
Clyde, and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy.
There are two golf courses, trout farm
fishing, sailing, nature trails and pony trekking,
as well as cruises aboard the famous `Waverley'
paddle steamer. In Largs (2 miles) you will find the
Kelburn Country Centre and Vikingar - an exciting
all-weather leisure centre, with a swimming pool,
500-seat theatre and children's soft play area.
There is also a choice of small shops, a
supermarket, post office, pubs and a station.
Although an attractive seaside resort now, Largs
like much of this area has enjoyed an interesting
history - in 1263 it was where the Norse fleet were
defeated.
From Largs take a ferry to Great Cumbrae Island and
visit the aquarium, near Keppel Pier, and the
`Cathedral of the Isles' on the sandy bay at
Millport. The Cumbraes are not the only isles within
easy reach. Go from Wemyss Bay across the waters to
Bute, or drive south to Ardrossen and arrive in the
exceptionally mild island of Arran. Arran is home to
a wealth of places to visit, including the NTS owned
Goatfell (2,866 ft) with its magnificent views from
the Clyde coast to the Hebrides and Northern
Ireland. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy making the trip
here, as Arran has 6 courses in which to shoot a
round. Manor Park is well-placed for anyone looking
to plan a diverse holiday itinerary. Whether you
take to the sea or prefer to head inland, there is
much to fill the days. Within an hour's drive you
can reach Loch Lomond, Burns country and Glasgow,
with Edinburgh just a little further. Pub 2.5 miles.

Nestling
beneath the dramatic peak of Ben Lawers,
Craggantoul enjoys unrivalled views over
Loch Tay and provides an ideal place to
relax. The peace and tranquillity, combined
with marvellous panoramic views set against
the backdrop of mountains beyond is just
what is needed to unwind. Four of the five
cottages have been sympathetically converted
from former farm steadings, creating
attractive accommodation of the highest
standards, while the fifth cottage is set
apart from the others and approached by its
own access road offering total peace and
seclusion.
All the
cottages are spacious, comfortable and
cosily heated throughout. Of the 100 acres
at Craggantoul, 40 acres of woodland are
designated as a Site of Special Scientific
Interest, and for nature lovers this is a
delight with oak forest, a profusion of wild
flowers, deer, red squirrels and an
abundance of bird life to enjoy.
For guests who are keen fishermen, there is
a quarter-mile of a loch frontage granting
free trout fishing - waders recommended.
Some of the best salmon fishing in Scotland
is available nearby at Kenmore (8 miles). As
well as walking, climbing, bird-watching,
fishing, pony trekking, quad biking, 4x4,
cycling and mountain biking, there is also
golf and a variety of water sports to enjoy
locally - canoeing, sailing, wind-surfing
and even white water rafting are available
at the Croft na Caber water sports centre at
Kenmore.
From
Craggantoul, the Ben Lawers nature reserve
with its rare Alpine flowers is only minutes
away, and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs
National Park boundary starts at Killin (7
miles). For climbers, some of Scotland's
finest Munro peaks are close by and slightly
further afield are Ben Nevis, Glen Coe and
the Cairngorms.Within easy reach there are
several interesting places to visit.
Aberfeldy (16 miles), with its fine stone
bridge over the River Tay built by General
Wade in 1733, has a sports centre and indoor
swimming pool and a good choice of shops and
restaurants. The town hosts a popular
festival of traditional games in August as
well as a music festival in September.
Fortingall, at the entrance to Glen Lyon, is
reputed to be the birthplace of Pontius
Pilate.
The
reconstructed Bronze Age Crannog at Kenmore
is well worth a visit as are the castles at
Blair Atholl and Weem. As Craggantoul is
centrally located, excursions to Oban, Fort
William, Inverness, Perth, Dundee, Stirling,
Glasgow and Edinburgh are all within a day's
drive. There are numerous local bars and
restaurants available in the area and the
nearest is the Ben Lawers Hotel (2 miles)
where good food is served all day during the
high season.
